stacked masonry heater in slate and stucco

Stacked Masonry Heaters finished in Slate and stucco combination finish.

Stacked Masonry Heaters finished in slate and stucco are a great way to have a masonry heater on 2 floors of a larger house. This SR-13 5 sided basement stacked heater was built with one of our Solid Rock Masonry heater kits. Only the stone portion of the above heater is designed to heat.  The plastered section on the left of the stove is designed as the foundational support for the massive main floor heater.  This basement heater was finished with a thin veneer slate and a charcoal stucco combination.

These are the finished versions of 2 stacked masonry heaters that we built for a client in 2016.  We built one of our SR-13 masonry heater cores in the basement of the home.  Next, we stacked one of our SR-22 cores on the main floor level. You can find our cores here Solid Rock Core Systems.  We finished with a combination of MN Slate and Stucco on this two-story masonry heater.

SR-22HWO Stacked masonry heater Main Floor

My masons and I built this massive main floor heater we designed for this client in Northern MN.  We used one of our SR-22HWO engine core systems and then built channels on the front side of the heater to elongate the design.  Here are the links to the 2 stacked heater builds.  Sanborn SR-13 Masonry Heater corner unit. Finished with slate and stucco.   Sanborn SR-22 Masonry Heater with rear white oven, woodbox and stone table. Finished in Taconite, slate, and polished Granite                  Since there was a main floor stacked masonry heater and basement heater we had to design both of the chimney systems into the side of this stacked heater to go up one large chimney chase.  We designed a wood box set into the side of the heater in order to store wood easily. This keeps the wood mess under control next to a large raised granite hearth.   Since this home was located close to Minnesota’s Iron Range we incorporated local MN slate on the heater and polished granite slabs for the hearth and side breakfast table also from MN.  We welded up steel support on the side for the breakfast table.

We built a white oven on the backside of this heater in the kitchen area.

Here is a link to a stacked heater by my friend and colleague based out of Toronto Canada to show another example of a stacked masonry heater. https://www.mha-net.org/two-storey-heater-by-alex-chernov/
